the blame:

I see a guestbook, I sign it...

So, when I'm allowed to look at the website through the private entrance, I'm always amazed at the things I find.
As you can imagine, The Office Boss has a user name and password to make changes and add things to the website, and every now and the Danny P gets to take a peek. I usually get "This wouldn't interest you Dan, just stick to the show" or "It's just figures and reports Dan, just stick to the show." or "I don't like you breathing on the back of my neck Dan. You just had a cigarette, didn't you? Get out of the office, go home, and just stick to the show, okay?"
Anyway, once in a while I get to look. Did you know that danparksandtheblame .com gets over 10,000 hits per month? And on Feb 11, 2010 alone, we got 736 hits? I can see what people were searching for when they found us (search strings). Usually it's just "Dan Parks Blame" or "Parks Blame Vermont" or something like that, but last time I was allowed to look, I saw a string that said, "Why don't people like Dan Parks". Man, I hope that was in reference to Scottish soccer star Dan Parks, but could have been someone I know simply wondering why people don't like me. I'll answer that in the next blog.
I find that 65% of our hits come from .net, 14% from .com, 1.79% from .edu.
I find out how many Kbytes (whatever the hell those are) and pages go to Turkey, Canada, Israel, Republic of Moldova, Seychelles, Germany, France, Hong Kong, King Kong (no, not King Kong. Can you imagine him with a giant laptop?) Ukraine, Greece, Brazil.
I see how many hits we got on pictures, or how many sample clips of our songs people listened to. Don't worry, I can't tell exactly who was looking. "Uh oh! Susie Chapstick was looking at pictures of Aaron all week. And look at that; Jennie Creamcheese was reading my lyrics 12 times yesterday!" It's nothing like that. We can't get that detailed stuff.
But here's what I'm really wondering... I notice that we get a LOT of hits to the Guestbook. Here's the thing: we rarely get anyone to sign it. Oh sure, Jennifer Aniston accused me of phone stalking her and I think Corey's mom once asked if he wanted his underpants put in the dryer, but really, for all the folks LOOKING at the guestbook, there's not a lot of people SIGNING it. I don't know...I see a guestbook, I sign it. Perhaps people (or People..., or US Weekly) just want to get the poop.
In closing, let me say that if I wasn't supposed to say all this stuff about the stats, and how much we can see from inside the site,...if I've pissed off The Office Boss, the next note in the Guestbook will probably read something like this:
"Dear blame, it was great playing with you guys. I guess I've got to learn to shut-up. Do you know of any bands looking for a singer? Dan P"

Peace,
dp
